Stone lined pathways lead the way from the rooms to the main lodge where you will find the dining room, lounge, bar, infinity pool and sun loungers. Take a stroll down to the river and you’ll find a few secluded and shaded seating areas, offering a perfect place to relax and take in the sounds and sights of nature.
Being built on the edge on the Olifant’s River, a vast array of life is drawn in to its waters, from herds of elephants and wallowing hippo pods to even the nocturnal and elusive predators. Spend the afternoons relaxing on the sun loungers, cooling down in the lodge pool or simply bird-watching from your balcony.
Dining at Phakamani consists of simple and delicious South African style meals which are served in either in the boma area close to the river or up at the main lodge. A delicious hot and cold breakfast selection is served in the morning after your safari and later in the day a light lunch will be provided. The day ends with a drink around the roaring fire before you sit down and indulge in a flavourful three-course feast.

Phakamani River Lodge is situated in the heart of the Balule / Parsons Nature Reserve which forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park and is located only 46km outside of Hoedspruit. Being positioned in a big-five reserve allows for minimal effort in getting immersed in nature and exploring the diverse reserve that surrounds the lodge. This wild and diverse reserve is home to the big five and overall a vast array of wildlife. The camp itself overlooks the lush and abundant Olifant’s River and it’s own waterhole, and many animals are drawn to this life source, especially in the dry winter months.
Both East-gate and Phalaborwa airport are an hour drive away, making it easily accessible for fly-in guests. While many might choose to self-drive from Johannesburg, which is a scenic 6-hour drive away. The lodge itself is easily accessible for self-drive guests, though a high-clearance vehicle is recommended.
